RAPID-FIRE Q/A
Three words to describe you? Curious, humorous, empathetic
What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you? I was 8 when my family first moved across the country. I recall composing lyrics, in my head or singing softly as not to be heard by my older siblings, inspired by the difficulties of getting uprooted and the excitement of novel people, places, and customs. Writing has been a way for me to process life's challenges and delights ever since.
Why are you a teaching artist? I want to help students feel empowered to accomplish what I believe is a universal human goal: to hear and tell good stories.
In five words or less, why do you love your art form? So demanding, so worthwhile
Finish the sentence: "Because of Arts Ed..." students can learn to find flowers growing from cracks in pavement.
What does success look like during your residency? Students feel heard, empowered, and respected; the class/students has become more cohesive and collaborative.
What’s an important life skill you gained through the arts? Stage presence
Who is an artist that changed your life? Bob Dylan. His lyrics have perplexed and fascinated me all my life.
If you were entering a talent show, what would be your specific talent? I'm always threatening to start a bluegrass band... I'm not much of a guitarist anymore but I'd love an excuse to practice. Know any banjo pickers?
Do you have a secret (or not so secret) obsession? Local history and lore - the wilder the story the better
