RAPID-FIRE Q/A
Three words to describe you? Passionate, grounded, caring
What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you? When I was in 2nd grade, Jordan Dehline Burt came into my classroom as a SPARK! Teaching Artist and taught a residency about atoms and molecular structure through dance. That was the first time I became interested in and connected with movement. 14 years later, Jordan has moved from my teacher, to my mentor, and now to my coworker. So special!
Why are you a teaching artist? I am a teaching artist because I believe that movement is one of the most natural ways that we learn and by connecting that to curriculum, we not only enhance understanding, but promote a love for and appreciation of the arts from an early age.
In five words or less, why do you love your art form?Connective, expressive, informative, reflective, healing!
Finish the sentence: "Because of Arts Ed..." students will gain a wider range a tools through which to learn and connect with ways they can express themselves.
What does success look like during your residency? Success to me looks like students effectively learning the material, but it also looks like seeing them have fun. I want them to connect with themselves and each other as much as with the curriculum so that they can carry an appreciation for the power of art forward into their educations and lives.
What’s an important life skill you gained through the arts? Collaboration!
Who is an artist that changed your life? Michelle Boule
If you were entering a talent show, what would be your specific talent? Making a mean homemade pasta with ingredients from my garden!
Do you have a secret (or not so secret) obsession? Film photography
