RAPID-FIRE Q/A
Three words to describe you? Bubbly, observing, Brazilian
What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you? I was watching Afro-Brazilian religious rituals when I was around 7. There were drums, people clapping and singing to call upon the spirits, and my favorite part, dancing. This energy came over me as I started dancing, and I knew that this was my favorite way of honoring myself, my body, my culture, and my ancestors. I have loved it ever since.
Why are you a teaching artist? The body is an endless source of knowledge, helping kids explore that through movement and artistry early on is a passion. Dance has changed my life for the better and I want others to have the opportunity of experiencing this powerful art form.
In five words or less, why do you love your art form? Dance bridges you to the world
Finish the sentence: "Because of Arts Ed..." I can spread love, joy, and knowledge with others.
What does success look like during your residency? Students leave with a better understanding of their own and other life perspectives. They are more confident in their bodies and ability to create then when they came in.
What’s an important life skill you gained through the arts? Resilience
Who is an artist that changed your life? Charlene Campbell Carey
If you were entering a talent show, what would be your specific talent? Karaoke
Do you have a secret (or not so secret) obsession? Cheese (all kinds!)
