What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you?

In the sixth grade, my class was given the assignment to create a product and an advertisement for it. My product was Dinosaur Repellent, but my presentation was a fully scripted and rehearsed advertisement which I brought in a full costume and make-up for, while the other students had done nothing nearly as involved. Aha.

Why are you a teaching artist?

I believe that the highest goal for an individual, a community, a society, a species is to express itself fully. Through deep, connected expression, we can heal, grow, build, and transcend our individual egos and petty differences.

In five words or less, why do you love your art form?

Group mind birthed through form

I learned how to communicate with my peers, my family, my community, and myself.

What does success look like during your residency?

Students developing the beginning (maybe middle) of a personal relationship with their unique voice which they will continue to cultivate throughout their lives.

I would tell a story, employing sound, image, movement as well as text.
