BACKGROUND
Art Form: Dance/Creative Movement
Experience: I founded Turning the Wheel Missoula in 2001 and have been facilitating people of all ages and abilities in creative self expression and movement for over 20 years.
RAPIDFIRE Q/A
Three words to describe you? Creative, improvisational, compassionate
What was your first arts "aha" moment, including how old were you? I have been dancing since I came out of my mama but came into myself as an artist when I was 20. I walked the streets of Boulder, CO and would pick up cool discarded objects and would make found art sculptures from them by myself and with others. This is still a primary way I create art in community.
Why are you a teaching artist? Because I know the healing power of art, movement, play and creative self expression. I also know how desperately it is needed in our world!
In five words or less, why do you love your art form? Movement and art are medicine.
Finish the sentence: "Because of Arts Ed..." people come alive and learn to accept themselves more fully
What does success look like during your residency? Moving, happy, inspired people
What’s an important life skill you gained through the arts? Self confidence
Who is an artist that changed your life? Alana Shaw
If you were entering a talent show, what would be your specific talent? Playing the accordion
Do you have a secret (or not so secret) obsession? Creating as little garbage as possible
